Introducing …. Lytera 2.0 by SkinMedica. Formulated to address even the most stubborn discoloration regardless of skin type. Improvements are seen in as early as 2 weeks with progressively dramatic results at 12 weeks and beyond. This amazing product helps to optimize results of multiple treatments , including laser therapy, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion.
Although Lytera 2.0 is hydroquinone and retinol free, it’s use augments the effects of these products ( hydroquinone and tretinoin) when they are prescribed. This new fragrance free, non comedogenic product is now available at Ark-La-Tex Dermatology ! Stop by today and purchase yours!
Not all moisturizers are created equal. Here are my favorites:
- HA 5 by SkinMedica – can take “lizard skin” on the face and smooth and plump. This product is a necessity for those of us “of a certain age”.
2. Obagi Luxe – less pricey than the above but still good.
3. B 5 Hydrating gel by SkinCeuticals. Keep it in your purse
1) Use an antioxidant serum before your morning sunscreen. A good bargain is Vitamin C Lotion 30% by Revision (109$).
2) A light winter peel–lactic acid or salicylic acid–can rid you of dry, dull skin. Add a hyaluronic acid moisturizer to really smooth your skin. Good products: Hydrating Serum by Revision ($65) or HA5 by SkinMedica ($178 but worth it).
3) Continue daily sunscreen–SPF 30 or greater.
4)Don’t stop your nightly Retin A, but consider a lower strength for winter.
5)For hand protection get CeraVe healing balm.
AM
1) Obagi Cleanser
2) Obagi Toner
3) TNS Essential Serum (SkinMedica)
4) Tinted Sunscreen (SkinCeuticals)
PM
1) Cleanser (Obagi)
2) Toner (Obagi)
3) HQRA ( combines 12% hydroquinone and 0.1% Retin A)
Two to three times a week, I also use an exfoliant – either Obagi’s Exfoderm or Revision’s Finishing Touch. If I am extremely dry, I add in Obagi Luxe in the evening ( after Retin A), and / or HA5 (SkinMedica) in the morning. This latter product will smooth out crepey skin and allow makeup to glide on.
Ark-La-Tex Dermatology has developed its own skincare line especially for those of you who have an active schedule but still want to look your best. Here, Dr. Futrell explains the steps in the two-minute drill.
Traveling is on the agenda for many of us this summer.
Here are a few great tips to keep your skin looking great:
- Don’t wear makeup on the plane. Instead, reapply moisturizer frequently, and don’t forget Vaseline for your lips.
- Carry your own skin and hair care products. Transfer them to travel size that can be bought online.
- 1% hydrocortisone under your eyes on the plane can reduce swelling.
- Drink lots of water. Avoid caffeine and alcohol.
- Use your antioxidants topically (TNS Essential serum or CE Ferrulic).
- Always carry a travel size sunscreen to get you started the first day. Sunburns happen.
- Have fun!
Fall and winter are the best times for chemical peels. Whether it is a light pre-party peel for exfoliating, or a deeper peel for anti-aging, this is a relatively inexpensive way to freshen your skin.
A-Alpha hydroxyl acid peels, like glycolic can exfoliate and freshen. This is a typical lunchtime peel.
B– Beta hydroxyl acid peels (salicylic acid) can be a great for a quick anti-age treatment on the face and body.
C-Combination peels (Vitalize/Rejuvenize peels) combat unwanted pigment, and can be done in series to lighten unwanted “age spots”. They are great for removing discolored acne scaring. Click here for before/after photos.
G-Certain Glytone peels target problem areas
1) Mandelic acid-for sensitive skin and redness
2) Pyruvic acid- moderate downtime and anti-aging
3) Lactic acid/trichloroacetic acid in low concentration target the eye and lip area
4) Combination TCA and Kojic acid peels can target “age spots” on hands
T-Higher concentrations of TCA (trichloroacetic acid), with or without Jessner’s solution, deal with more extensive photo-aging, dark age spots, and in some cases actinic Keratoses (precancerous) and some acne scars.
Alphabet soup can be confusing and a consultation can help you find the right peel—and avoid the wrong one.
